So, if you are like me, or even worse, like my boss, god forbid, you have had some confusing experiences with your PDA and Windows Vista? I connected my T-mobile MDA, and got some kind of weird message about syncing files using Media Player. This isnt exactly what I had in mind... I was more interested in syncing email, contacts, notes etc. I figured I would do that with ActiveSync, but found out that ActiveSync is not what you need for Vista, it is some mysterious mobility center. This is all I could find on my machine:
The Sync section kept droning on about the same exchanging files with Media Player. I was temporarily stymied and moved on to other more pressing tasks, like finding out what went where in Office 2007 (did they have to move everything to a different place? It's like trying to find something in the kitchen after one of your friends offers to unload the dishwasher as a favor...).
Anyway, a few weeks later my boss wondered if I had had any luck syncing with my PDA, so I refocused on the task, and found a link to something called the Windows Mobile Device Center. It turns out that this is still a Beta product (Beta 3 right now), but then so is most of the stuff I am running on Vista! So I boldly downloaded it, installed it, and Voila, here it is:
Basically, this is ActiveSync on steriods. Under Mobile Device Settings you can set up partnerships, decide what gets synchronized, etc. You can also install programs, explore the device, and so on.
Once installed, I connected my PDA and now I get a more familiar sync dialog:
And something vary similar to ActiveSync is running in my task bar....
All is well again!
Next, I am going to see if I can install my Navigation System using the discs that worked under XP...
Have fun!
